Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are trudging through the last of the weeks of winter but we still are relying on our furnaces, especially during cold nights. Nothing is worse than laying down at night just to realize your furnace won’t start up. If your furnace won’t turn on, here are a few things you can check yourself before your call Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should swap out standard air filters each month. If you fail to do so, they can end up clogged, restricting air flow and resulting in a furnace malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

Start by turning the thermostat up a few degrees to get the furnace to turn on. If the actual room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t kick on. Also, make sure the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem obvious, but verify the power switch next to the heating system is “On.” Even gas furnaces use electricity so confirm the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch has not been accidently flipped to the “Off” position.

If you inspect all these things and your furnace will still not start up, give Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 352-374-6602 and we’ll come out and get you taken care of as soon as possible.
