What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning in Gainesville always tells you about how our service techs are NATE-certified, and while it sounds encouraging, what does it actually mean?

NATE stands for North American Technician Excellence and, as mentioned on their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization was developed by and has been supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not all people in the industry are required to be certified through NATE. The certification is voluntary and technicians can work in the heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration industry without being certified through NATE.

It’s important to Service Experts that our experts are NATE-certified to be sure we are sending the most qualified and trained technicians into your home. To make sure technicians meet these benchmarks, the NATE-certification exams validate real-world working knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration systems for technicians. The assessments are knowledge-based tests that assess the technician’s knowledge of these criteria.

Since Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification (not refrigeration), there are only specific areas relevant to our technicians. NATE exam candidates may obtain installation and/or service certification in one or more of the talent areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
  • Air Distribution
  • Gas Heating
  • Oil Heating
  • Heat Pumps
  • Hydronics Gas (service only)
  • Hydronics Oil (service only)
  • Light Commercial Refrigeration (service only)
