When the Dallas and Fort Worth Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning locations (Calverley Service Experts, Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning Plano/DFW, and Levy and Son) were getting ready to support the Walk MS events in Addison and Fort Worth, they wanted to offer an APCO to the event participants.
“Service Experts believed an APCO Air Purifier was the perfect product to auction off since this spring we have been encouraging saving the air, and it helps eliminate germs and impurities from your air that can exacerbate allergies and respiratory ailments,” said Rob Haines, Marketing Manager for Service Experts.
Kim Speck was the winner of the Fresh-Aire UV APCO Air Purifier when her bid came in highest at the Dallas Walk MS event. Kim first found out about the APCO several months before when she came across an article regarding the significance of indoor air quality.
“I didn’t think much about it at the time because I didn’t realize its compatibility with almost any heating and air conditioning system, and thought it was another one of those “luxuries” that was way out of my budget. When they were auctioning it off at Walk MS event, people were talking about the importance of good indoor air quality for MS sufferers and I just thought of my father.”
Kim’s father was 91 years old and had lived with COPD for over 20 years. For the past four years he had been on oxygen constantly, 24/7/365.
“The allergens in the air aggravated him even though I would install the more costly 3M Filtrate brand of air filters. The filters just weren’t enough. He often caught pneumonia even though he had only left his home over the past four years to see his doctors.”
The pneumonia meant Kim’s father spent a minimum of two months in the hospital and rehabilitation center. Right before the Walk MS event in Dallas, Kim’s father had spent the majority of the month in the hospital and a few days at the rehab facility recovering from two strings of pneumonia. After seeing her father endure so much, Kim resolved she was ready to “roll the dice” by bidding on the APCO, which had two great benefits: her dad would finally come home to “clean” air and all the money went to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Kim was over the moon when she found out she had bid the highest and planned on calling to get the APCO installed in her father’s house before he was sent home from the rehab clinic. Sadly, only three days after the MS Walk, Kim’s father was taken home to hospice care and passed away peacefully four days later. The APCO arrived a week later.
Kim had the APCO installed in her own house because her husband has problems with allergies. A few weeks after it was inserted, she was cooking onions and noted she couldn’t smell any odors once she the meal was over. She’s looking forward to seeing long-term effects of the system.
Everyone here at Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning sends their thoughts and prayers to Kim and her family.
